Ohio in the spotlight

With the Reds’ season over and the World Series all done, my TV viewing has expanded in other directions. But what do I get to watch? Election year crap! Once again Ohio is getting attention due to elections that could go either way and/or may be being manipulated by…somebody.

Pardon me if I’m hallucinating, but back in civics class I thought they said how democracy had improved by letting more and more people vote (not just the particular demographic groups that agree with you). Also, if people didn’t agree with your ideas, you were supposed to try to persuade them that you were right—not scare them that the other people running for office were treasonous evildoers. But see, that was how democracy was getting better, not how one party or another was eviscerating their opponents.

The only good thing I’ve seen of all this is The Daily Show coming to Ohio. Jon Stewart and the people that have put together the “Midwest Midterm Midtacular” have a much better take on all this tacky electioneering than the politicians do. Plus, they don't mind mocking their hosts, the OSU Buckeyes.
